Proffessional Information Ltd

Professional Information Limited is the UK's leading Medical Information service provider. The Company answers questions from doctors, nurses, pharmacists and the general public, with the objective of supporting safe and effective use of medicines.

Managing Director, Rachel Lilley, moved Professional Information from Bracknell up to Richmondshire, partly to take advantage of the better quality of life that the region had to offer, but primarily to improve the Company's ability to attract and retain the high quality personnel that are essential to the success of the business.

"Our location in Richmond enables us to provide our staff with an outstanding working environment in reasonably close proximity to attractive and affordable places to live. This really helps with staff retention and our clients are invariably impressed when they see the operation we have been able to create in North Yorkshire to deliver their services."

Professional Information currently employs 38 life science graduates at their enquiry handling centre in Richmond. This gives science graduates the opportunity to utilise the knowledge and skills gained during their degree in an exciting and challenging role, but with the added attraction of being based in the North of England.

thecitysecret

thecitysecret provides IT software to large financial clients for use by brokers and traders. Of the 43 staff they employ, 35 are graduates.

Peter Hall is the Training manager at thecitysecret. He says they find being based in the North away from the larger cities means running costs are a lot lower and they can offer their clients more competitive rates.

"We don't need to be based in the City so why would we be?" says Peter. "Our location is accessible from all parts of the country. We have great links by road and rail, and even an airport on our doorstep. Our location is key to being able to gain the edge on our competitors and there are really aren't any disadvantages to being located outside of London."

As the training manager, Peter is responsible for bringing graduates into the business and overseeing their development. He says one big advantage of employing graduates is the fact that they are used to learning, so tend to take onboard new skills and ways of working quickly.

"In an industry like ours it's really crucial that our staff continue to develop and keep up with changes in technology and the market."
