Working in Physiotherapy

Victoria Stott
Band 5 rotational Physiotherapist
Rotherham Primary Care Trust
Physiotherapy BSc, Manchester Met

Victoria works for the Rotherham Primary Care Trust in a rotational post which means she gets to experience different roles within the physiotherapy department. She is currently working in musculoskeletal outpatients, which is an interesting and busy area where she's constantly learning new treatment techniques.

"So far I've had a small stint in mental health, 6 months in domi's and I'm halfway through my out-patients rotation," says Victoria. "I normally see 2-3 new patients a day and follow ups the rest of the day.

"It's always busy and I'm based at GP clinics some of the week too. When I'm not seeing patients of typing up notes (which isn't often!), I catch up with discharges or study."

Victoria previously worked in a private hospital but was drawn to the NHS by their structured career path and training opportunities. She also loves how supportive the NHS environment can be, colleagues are always happy to discuss patients and help with treatment plans.

"The best thing about the NHS are the people, all my colleagues so far have been really supportive and great fun too! And there are loads of additional benefits as well such as NHS discounts and flexible working that make finding the right work life balance so much easier."

Although she's undecided as to the area of physiotherapy she wishes to work she knows that the NHS can offer her loads of opportunities to find the right career path and opportunities for further training as well. She's also really settled in to Yorkshire and hopes to gain a static position within Rotherham PCT in the future.

"I moved to Sheffield from Manchester for this job which was very scary at the time but I've been welcomed with open arms, made friends and even met the man of my dreams!"
