Job details: Two exciting opportunities have arisen for Family Support Workers.

The Role of Family Support Workers
The work varies according to the needs of the family and the recommendations of their social worker. Family support workers within a child in need team, will undertake a range of work with children and families under the direction of experienced and/or qualified practitioners. This can involve specific pieces of work with children and parents and supporting the work of social work colleagues.

This work may bring workers into contact with parents/carers whose challenges can include; substance misuse, mental ill health, domestic or sexual violence, illness or hospitalisation of a carer, financial pressures, social isolation, victims of hate crime, incarceration within prison, or poor parenting experiences.

The nature of the contact, the tasks and the focus of work, will be planned with the Family Support Worker and progress reviewed periodically with the Social Worker and/or their line manager. All work will need to be recorded appropriately and in line with departmental policy and procedures. These records may be used to support evidence to Court should children be the subject in legal proceedings.

Family Support workers make an important contribution to the wider assessments of children in relation to child protection procedures and they may also be involved in supporting the placements of children in care or returning home. This will include organising, transporting and supervising contact for children who are looked after by the Local Authority with their parents.

To apply for this role you must have the relevant experience and knowledge, skills and abilities outlined in the employee specification associated with this post.

Please note for these posts you will be required to undergo and enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Check.

The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
