Low Energy Mortars KTP Associate

This vacancy has now closed.

Employer: University of Bradford KTP

The Knowledge Transfer Partnerships Office at the University of Bradford is responsible for promoting KTP vacancies. These are posts which are based in companies within the region, but which also include a learning element relating to the University of Bradford within them.
Job details: Lime Technology and the University are seeking a well-motivated graduate to work, at the forefront of the sustainable building industry, on a project to extend previous work on a novel process to dry the sand.

This is part of a KTP collaborative project with the University of Bradford, School of Engineering Design and Technology and Lime Technology Lyd. It is a fixed-term post for a period of 40 weeks.

Lime Technology Ltd (www.limetechnology.co.uk) was launched as a specialist in the field of applying the latest in dry mortar technology to the long established use of lime mortar. Under the brand name 'LIMETEC', ready mixed dry hydraulic lime mortars can be delivered to site using tankers and bulk silos for storage. This has, for the first time, allowed lime to be considered as a real substitute for cement in the new build market. This exciting new development has been made possible through a three-way collaboration with Hansons Cement and CPI Euromix. The development of the company is founded on the latest research in sustainable construction and has a very forward-looking approach to its market.

The key purpose of the post is to work with the company to refine the large-scale process for the production of lime-dried sands and to investigate the incorporation of PFA or fly ash from the nearby Didcot Power Station as a third component of the binder phase. PFA has the potential to provide both technical and environmental benefits to the material.

The Associate must be able to work in a team and also to facilitate and lead teamwork activities. He/she must have excellent inter-personal communication skills.

You will be a self-motivated and confident person who is willing to take the initiative, a capable and positive thinker, a team player and an excellent communicator.

Strictly no agencies.
Degree: You should possess a recent MEng or BEng/BSc Honours Degree in a construction related discipline or equivalent experience. Some relevant industrial experience will be beneficial but is not essential.
Location: Bradford, West Yorkshire
Salary: up to £21,000 per annum, pro rata (40 weeks fixed term) depending on qualifications and experience. You will also have access to all University facilities and training.
Closing date: Closed Fri 19-Mar-2010 at 5:00pm
Job ref: GY/41002/REN1124
Eligibility: Applications will only be accepted from candidates who are authorised to work for any UK employer.
