Hands on experience

Internships are a great way to get hands on experience in a graduate role. Here at Graduates Yorkshire we advocate paid internships as we believe that graduate talent should be valued and internships open to all. An internship is normally anything from a 3 month to a 12 month placement. Internships are a great way for you to get your first step on the career ladder, especially when you lack experience. Internships differ to work experience as they’re for a longer period of time, normally of graduate calibre and should be paid.

Look out for paid internships – although it’s ok to do a few weeks unpaid work experience if it’s anything longer you should expect to get paid the minimum wage, if not your employer may be breaking the law.

Graduate level internships – are a great opportunity to get experience that can push you forward in your career. If the internship is not adding to your skill set then you should reconsider your position.

Great experience – it’s a chance for you to trial out a certain career and see if it’s for you. Sometimes it can be good to try out a few different internships to decide which career path you should take.

Internships are varied – Sometimes internships work on a trial basis at first with the chance to progress into full time employment. However some are to fulfil certain projects so although a permanent job at the end cannot be guaranteed, just think of all the skills you can learn.

We have both internships and permanent graduate jobs on our site so have a look around to see which role suits you best!
