Internship FAQ's

Our new internship scheme is set to create some great opportunities for graduates in our region. But what is an Internship, why is it such a great start to your career and how do you apply? Here's the lowdown on our internship scheme and how you can get involved.

How long does an internship last?

Our Internships are 3 to 12 month placements with Yorkshire employers.

What are they in?

They can be in any discipline, it just depends on what the employer is looking for.

Will I get paid?

Yes. All our Interns will receive a fair wage and on top of this get loads of extra training absolutely free as well as valuable experience for your CV.

Will I be doing a set project or will I just be fitting into a team?

This also depends on the employer but whatever the role you won't be expected to come straight into the company and have all the answers. It's a junior role and you should expect that you'll be given loads of help and support to develop.

What training will I get?

Each Intern will have a dedicated Project Coordinator who will organise all the training you need with your employer. The training you get will be specific to your job role and designed to help you develop in your area.

What other support will I get?

Your friendly Project Coordinator will be on the other the side of the phone and willing to chat about how your internships going at any time. Well, during normal office hours at least!

Why is it such a great start to my career?

Our structured internships provide all the support and help you need to become more employable and you may even impress your employer enough to bag a full time job at the end of it!

How do I apply?

Make sure you're signed up with Graduates Yorkshire to find out about the great internship opportunities as they go live!

What happens next?

After you've submitted your application it will be assessed by one of our team who will let you know whether we wish you to proceed to completing the online testing phase. Once you have completed your online tests wait to hear from us to find out whether you've progressed to our assessment centre days. The next step is to attend an assessment day and from their successful applicants will be asked to a formal interview with the employer to see if you match their criteria and that they can offer you the right start to your career!

What happens if I don't get an Internship?

Every graduate who applies to our internship program will receive valuable feedback on their CV, a breakdown of their skills through our online tests and assessments centres and will be entitled to a free guidance session at a local University. So what ever happens, you'll be more employable at the end of it!

Sheffield on Show

We recently had a few film graduates produce us a great video for Yorkshire Day. They kindly did us a Sheffield edit while they were at it, which we think is fab!

There are some brilliant shots of the City including the Big Wheel and Leopold Square. Along with interviews with students, graduates and the nice staff at Sheffield Hallam Students Union about just why Sheffield is such a great place to be!

We hope to get it on our website soon as well as produce some more great videos from around the region to really showcase what Yorkshire has to offer.

Check out the video here.
