Happy Birthday Graduates Yorkshire
Last updated 31-Jul-12 17:50
It’s a triple whammy of celebration for Graduates Yorkshire today. Not only is it Yorkshire Day (our favourite day of the year!) it is also our fifth birthday, and to top it off we have also reached the amazing milestone of having 50,000 graduates registered on our site!
It has been a busy five years getting up to this point but we have achieved a number of things that make us proud. First and foremost is that we have placed over 20,000 graduates into graduate level jobs across Yorkshire and the Humber. The last few years have been difficult for graduates and businesses alike so we are delighted to have made a positive contribution to the careers of over 20,000 graduates and the skills profile of many of the region’s businesses. In fact, 70% of vacancies placed are filled by a Graduates Yorkshire candidate. We’re also pretty pleased with the impact of our Yorkshire wide internship scheme which ran from 2009 to 2011. We placed 130 interns, with 85% of those being converted into permanent jobs.
The challenge of placing graduates doesn’t stop there though. This summer’s graduates have pushed our numbers up to 50,000. We’re biased of course, but we think it’s great that 50,000 graduates, 90% of which have previous work experience, want to live and work in Yorkshire- why wouldn’t they? The region’s graduates are vital to the economic recovery of Yorkshire and The Humber so we’re pleased that so many graduates are looking for work in the locality.
We’ve also tried hard over the previous five years to understand the experiences of graduates and employers in the region. Our annual Big Grad Survey attracted over 3,800 responses this year (responses to be released over the summer) and our annual Graduate Employment Conference has grown from just 6 delegates to over 100, attracting keynote speakers internationally.
One of the most notable additions to the Graduates Yorkshire brand family has been Gradcore, a national division focusing on graduate employability and working with universities, graduates and employers. Since its creation Gradcore has worked with over 30 universities on their employability provision and managed the graduate recruitment process for high profile organisations such as the British Council.
So all in all it has certainly been a productive five years! There is no time to rest though, we’ve got 50,000 graduates to help move up the career ladder.
Now we’ve blown our own trumpet- it’s time for a spot of thanks.
We wouldn’t have been able to achieve any of the above without the support and hard work of many individuals and organisations- you know who you are! So, on behalf of all the Graduates Yorkshire team we’d like to say a big thank you.
