The Yorkshire region is no different to elsewhere in the UK in that Network Engineers can work for a variety of employers often as part of an in-house technical support team in both the public and private sector. Network specialists can also be self-employed or work for IT consultancies. (See the section on Self Employment if this possibility interests you). Networking roles are available in companies and organisations of all sizes but if for a small to medium sized company it may be combined with technical or user support.

As this sector is very fast moving, individuals have a responsibility to keep up-to-date with technical advances although this can be expensive. Most vacancies are for MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer), MCSA (Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator) and/or Oracle certified individuals. Other employers also value the Cisco and Novell qualifications. There are many places in the region where you can train to gain these qualifications if required. Check the links on the Welcome page of YETI for details of regional training.
