Electronics & Communications
Electronic designers
Electronic designers design electronic circuitry for a number of applications, including signal processing and high-speed data transfer. Electronic design is particularly important in the medical and communications industries, for example in creating circuitry to control and interface equipment with methods of transmission - fibre optic, electronic or over-air transmission.
With the recent growth of entirely internet-based communications systems, there is an increasing job market for electronic designers in developing high-speed internet technologies. Electronic design consultancies exist nationwide, Yorkshire being no exception, and many careers in electronic design can be found with communications and computing related companies in the region.
Electronic designers generally deal with aspects of pre-production including research, quality assurance and prototyping, whereas electronic engineers cover aspects of production, sales and post-sales. This makes electronic design a highly specialised and technical career and graduate positions will generally include specific training.
Entry into the industry will normally require a specific related degree backed up by a good portfolio.
