Network Designers
Network design covers the strategic planning and design of computer networks, including security and optimisation. This generally means either local area networks (LANs) within buildings or organizations or wide area networks (WANs) providing network services over a broader area such as Internet services.
As well as employing technical knowledge of network hardware and configuration, network designers analyse networks and optimise them where possible, to make data transfer as secure and efficient as possible.
Yorkshire is home to a lot of IT companies, many providing network design consultancy but also many non-IT based businesses who require efficient, secure computer networks within their premises. There are also wide applications of network design to the many companies specialising in telecommunications. As high-speed internet technology continues to improve, and with growing consumer security concerns, there is a strong need for large-scale network designers.
Entry into the industry will normally require a specific related degree backed up by a good portfolio.
