Publishing

Publishing is divided into three main areas - books, magazines and newspapers. In Yorkshire there are a range of local publications and newspapers as well as in-house opportunities working for large organisations.

Roles can be varied. You could find yourself working with bestselling fiction or Children's publications and specialist areas like Education or Medicine. Jobs can be at any stage of production, from editorial, design and production, to marketing and distribution.

If you're interested in publishing a great way to start is by finding out as much about the profession as you can. Keep up-to-date with goings on in the media and don't overlook the importance of being well read. Weekly trade journals such as Campaign, Publishing News and Printing World are a great way to find out about the profession.

Boost you employment potential by working on a student newspaper or find a work placement to gain some valuable hands on experience and working in a local bookstore would make the ideal part time job.
