Operating as a Social Enterprise
A social enterprise is, first and foremost, a business which like any business aims to turn a profit. Therefore, social enterprises are involved in some form of trading activity - such as the sale of products or services, or delivering a contract. The difference is that it will have been set up primarily to meet a social objective, with the profit generated being reinvested into the enterprise and/or the community, not to make money for its owner. At the last count, the Government estimates that social enterprises now employ nearly half a million people in the UK, and account for trade worth £18 billion.

Franchises
Essentially, franchising is the granting of a license by one person (the franchisor) to another (the franchisee), allowing the franchisee to trade under the trade mark/trade name of the franchisor and to make use of an entire package, comprising all the elements necessary to establish a previously untrained person in the business and to run it with continual assistance on a predetermined basis.
