Legal
Employment options within the mainstream legal sector are numerous; solicitors, barristers, legal executives, paralegals, barristers' clerks, clerical, administrative staff and information professionals are just some of the roles within firms of solicitors and barristers' chambers.
In addition the courts and other statutory bodies employ staff, as do patent agents, licensed conveyancers and other legal service providers. Large organisations such as central government departments, local authorities and commercial organisations may also have their own legal departments employing both professional and ancillary staff. In commercial organisations, this will often be a head office function and so may not be available in Yorkshire.
The range of work varies from basic clerical support requiring no formal training and little experience to professional careers demanding an appropriate degree with related work experience followed by postgraduate vocational training and qualification in the legal field. Specialists in human resources, IT, marketing, library and information work are also employed in the legal sector.
Activity centres on the cities and larger towns but smaller towns also have firms of solicitors; there are over 700 firms of solicitors and 94 Citizens Advice Bureaux in Yorkshire for example. Websites of the appropriate professional bodies can provide searchable databases for the region or sub-region.
