New AGR Focus on Graduate Employment

Graduates Yorkshire has welcomed the calls for getting more graduates into employment following the publication of the Association of Graduate Recruiters' Election Manifesto which states ‘Business would benefit' from investment in Graduate Employment.
Chief Executive of Graduates Yorkshire, Martin Edmondson, said: "In an economic climate where graduate unemployment is on the rise, any effort to make best use of the graduate talent is crucial. A significant proportion of graduates who leave university are often forced to take jobs that do not reflect their academic or vocational training as their opportunities are limited.
"There is a focus on apprenticeships at the moment yet we are not always making best use of the investment we put into our university students. We lose the massive potential each graduate has in creating real value for a business.
"I hope all the major political parties seriously consider tax breaks for employers who offer graduate vacancies, embedding employability skills into degree courses and greater investment into career services, work experience schemes and employability.
"There is a real need to ensure students learn work skills as well as academic skills so they can leave university more able to immediately contribute to their employers' business and reduce the cost to businesses who have to continue their training."
